The Birth of a Room
It’s starting to look real.

Parking Lot and Sidewalk Updates
Progress continues indoors, as we are beginning to run audio cable between the live room, isolation booth and the control room of the studio. We’re putting a few coats of red on the bathroom walls. But most noticeable, our parking lot is getting repaved and a new sidewalk will be installed in front of the building.

More updates to follow…. in the meantime, happy Thanksgiving.
Forever framing part 2

Lots of work on the control room and storage area. A little ceiling work and some iso booth beginnings.
Behold the Console
Secret Studio has purchased a Soundcraft 8000 console that has a long history of recording in Columbus. For years, it was used by the now defunct Columbus Discount Recording. Modified by engineer Adam Smith, this live sound board easily adapted to studio work. For the last five years, it was used at Musicol Recording where Keith worked on albums by Counterfeit Madison, Connections, Garbage Greek, Ryan Jewell and countless other artists.

We’ll be upgrading more components before installing it in the control room at Secret Studio.
Did we mention that, in addition to digital recording, we will have a Tascam 38 tape deck on hand (8-track, 1/2″ tape)? It’s a classic format, perfect for garage rock or vintage-style jazz. The Soundcraft board will be a great vehicle for old-school analog recordings. More on analog recording in a future post…
The Control Room
I imagine a very groovy room with a green velvet sofa for the musicians to chill on when they listen to the magic they’ve all just made.

Window
More framing. Behold, the control room window.

Framing, Part 1
Framing for the studio’s live room (and our event space) has commenced.
Secret Studio hosts Song.Writer Podcast
We held a private event on Sunday, hosting Ben Arthur’s Song.Writer podcast. Our close friends and supporters were in attendance. Ben asked his old friend Parker Paul to participate, as well as our co-owner Amy Turn Sharp, who read a poem inspired by Parker Paul’s song, “Lemongrass.”
We recorded the audio for the podcast, which will be released in 2020.
